RESUMEN

Se revisan las manifestaciones clínicas del herpes zoster y se llama la atención sobre el hecho de que el diagnóstico es casi siempre clínico. Sólo en localizaciones o formas especiales puede haber dificultad para establecer el diagnóstico, siendo especialmente en el zoster sine herpete en el que no aparecen lesiones cutáneas. Se hace una revisión de los métodos de laboratorio para confirmar el diagnóstico, que sólo se utilizan en muy contadas ocasiones.

ABSTRACT

Diagnosis of herpes zoster at the Emergency Outpatient Clinic

The clinical manifestations of herpes zoster are reviewed, stressing the fact that the diagnosis of this condition is almost always a clinical one. Difficulties in establishing the diagnosis may occur but only in the case particular forms or locations, and particularly in zoster sine herpete, in which the cutaneous lesions are absent. The laboratory methods for confirmation of the diagnosis are also reviewed, although they are very seldom used.
